Vitamin D deficiency is a worldwide epidemic.. 14%
of the world population has poor
vitamin D levels. (1) One study reports that it
affects 1 billion of us worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is linked
to a wide range of diseases. Improving
vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is followed.
New Roads Chiropractic Center encourages our New Roads chiropractic patients to know
and work to raise as necessary their vitamin D levels.
New Roads Chiropractic Center is sure that positive health benefits
will result from this effort.
DISEASES LINKED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS
A rampant vitamin D deficiency is associated
with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like breast, colorectal, kidney, lung, and pancreatic
is associated with low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic
arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional
vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are too.
(1, 2, 3) Vitamin D participates importantly in calcium
homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular
and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-related
to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) It responds well to vitamin
D3 supplementation. Checking the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test
as to the effectiveness of the treatment. (4) New Roads Chiropractic Center
notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also identified
as being affected by vitamin D status as well. New Roads
chiropractic care at New Roads Chiropractic Center benefits New Roads chiropractic
patients with these conditions.
BENEFITS OF RAISING VITAMIN D LEVELS
Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D
is shown to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers suggest
that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just
depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit
disorder, and autism. (1) Giving a daily equal
dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients for 3
weeks straight alleviates
symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) New Roads Chiropractic Center sees how
these benefits are worth the effort our New Roads
chiropractic patients would accept to raise
low vitamin D levels.
HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS
A study of healthy young women revealed that taking
calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of
vitamin D by patients with levels of more than 20
ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels increase. The elevation was witnessed
within the first 30 days
of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. A thought-provoking side finding in this study: It’s hard
to get people to do what is recommended! Only 67 of the 106
study participants did what they were to do for the three months of the
study! (6)
