TIP OF THE MONTH:
How’s Your Vitamin B12 Status?
Vitamin B12 keeps
the nerves and blood cells healthy. Mild B12 deficiency may be undetected.
More advanced B12 deficiency may result in anemia, fatigue,
pale skin, appetite drop, constipation, diarrhea, heart
palpitations, etc. One concerning condition linked
to B12 deficiency is subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord after
nitrous oxide anesthesia. (2) Improving B12 level
can be valuable. B12 may be delivered orally or via
injection. One injection study revealed that B12 eased
low back pain and disability and lowered patients’ use
of paracetamol for pain relief. (3) B12 deficiency may be avoided by
eating meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, and eggs or taking
B12 supplements. Talk with your New Roads chiropractor about the best approach for you toward healthy B12 status!
